Makeshift Kitchen

We are living in complete chaos at the moment, those of you who have moved home will understand.  I cannot believe how much 'stuff' came off Carpe Diem, I am now convinced she was a Tardis in a previous life!  Added to the fact that although the bedroom was sort of ready and the bathroom works, albeit unfinished, there is still a lot if work to be done.  We are having to make do, hence the makeshift kitchen.  But I am not complaining - the space is amazing, I have ice cream in a working freezer, I can do the washing without dragging it all to work, I have a hot shower to stand under and best of all I have my bed!  More pictures to follow. Enjoy your bank holiday weekend if you are in the UK xxx

  3. I'm sure you'll work round things. It sounds like you've got the essentials covered anyway.

  7. Val - thank you, it won't be that neat by the time Pete has made a sandwich! When I got the freezer installed the first thing I did was fill the top shelf with ice cream :)

SFT - thank you, just got to semi retire to fully complete the dream! Xxx

  8. All this moving sounds very exciting!

Onion marmalade recipes - I found a couple at:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=26077659#post26077659 posts 8 & 9

    also Elaine's recipe at:

When I made my last batch, it was based on Elaine's recipe but when things are for us and not for sale, I'm inclined to tweak things to suit what I have available, if you know what I mean : )

  10. This is going to be really wonderful!

In 1992, we moved aboard a boat PROJECT with a 9 month old and a 4 year old. It didn't even have a galley. We set up a rudimentary sink stuck in a board for a counter, and we installed a stove, and we got a little picnic table for the girls to sit at to eat. Truth be told, the girls had a ball on that boat! I was working and Dad took care of the girls and worked on the boat.

In 1995, we took the boat from California to Alaska - where it sank in the marina! There was a storm, and the boat was tied to a log float. We were living ashore. The float knocked a hole in the boat and it sank right there. We got a call at 3am telling us our boat was on the bottom.

But it was one of the many experiences that shaped our lives and that of our daughters. Now they are grown. Sigh. The older one is expecting the end of this month. Joyous!

  12. One of the things I loved about getting our larger fridge was the larger freezer. I love ice cream and now have some on hand at all times. We takes a small ice chest to town to carry our milk, cream and ice cream home to keep it from melting on the way up the lake. It works just fine as long as we shop the very last thing while we are in town. You are set up in a more proper way, even though it is a bit makeshift right now. - Margy
