Tea By The Sea

Just one minute walk from the barge, we have the most amazing tea room. It is called The Loft and is run by a few local girls. It is in one of the sail lofts and has a retro feel about it, is just like you imagine a tea room should be. There is a selection of teas and coffees along with some really yummy homemade cakes. They also serve sandwiches, paninis and homemade soup (and they cater for vegans, gluten free and other special diets, they even serve soy milk on request!) None of the crockery matches and the tables are formica. The girls also promote their own and other local crafts, several of which are on sale in the tearoom. During the week you will find an eclectic mix of customers; young mums meeting for lunch, local workers and other visitors to Tollesbury. I am beginning to sound like an advert! But as you can see by the pictures it is always worth checking the time of High Tide (which the Loft helpfully chalks up outside everyday).

    Does the high tide mean you can't get into it when the water is up?

    You can get into the sail loft without getting wet feet, but you do have to watch where you park your car xxxx

    Hi Fran, I am falling in love with your village. Oh, how I wish I could visit someday. Is that bunk available for Steve and I, too, LOL. I think sitting in that tea room having tea with you would be a marvelous way to get to know each other better, we already feel (from blogging) like you're our sister across the pond.

    Connie - of course you are always welcome. We could send the boys out to play on boats and you and me could have a lovely cup of tea and a giant slice of homemade Victoria sponge and get to know each other properly. Wouldn't that be just perfect :) xxx

    I don't mind you giving away my bunk Fran but missing out on a slice of a giant Victoria sponge, is just too much to lose in one day! :(

    You could share with Connie and Steve;) And if you want to play with the boats as well, I promise on your return there will be Victoria Sponge AND chocolate cake. Now do you feel better! Xxxx
