Getting There

Pete has been working really hard again and the wheelhouse is really coming along nicely.  As you can see, he has put the framework in for the windows, boarded the sides in and started to put the roof beams on.  It won't be long now until we have a proper roof.  I did suggest another storey that we could use for bed and breakfast, but I won't tell you Pete's reply, just to say it wasn't polite!!!!  Hope you all had a good weekend and enjoyed the lovely weather.  I planted broadbeans, spinach and strawberries and tended all my lovely little seedlings.  I am pleased to report that all that I have sown so far seems to be thriving okay and we may well be able to eat this summer!

  1. I thought of you when we were on our recent European trip, seeing all the ways people have managed to construct homes on the canals and rivers in The Netherlands and Belgium.
My best friend's husband is now in England doing all the minor repairs to the canal boat they purchased. It's been moved into its new moorage, and my friend is still in British Columbia, selling most of their things before their move to the boat in September.
I can see from your photo Pete is doing a great job on the wheelhouse, and he'll have plenty of space there. I hope he plans to share some of it with you.
Best of luck with the garden!

  3. Kay, I get a lot of inspiration from looking at barges in Holland, France, Belgium etc. Where in England is your friend's barge moored?
Ib - I think Pete also thinks it is going to be like a ship's bridge, but to me it is the living room!
