A Right Good Tidy Up

As I am now on summer holidays until September, I have a looooong lists of 'jobs' to get done.  Unfortunately the glorious weather and the very urgent need to get out in it, eg walking Alfie, pottering at the allotment, any other excuse, has taken priority and those jobs seem to be being put off whilst the list gets longer.  Yesterday was cooler, so I decided to tackle the pantry.  As I don't have a proper kitchen yet, things tend to get dumped in there and I was losing track of what stores I have amongst the 'stuff'.  Time for action!  So I got stuck in and eventually got in done.  Despite an accident with an open bottle of soy sauce being knocked off the top shelf, it wasn't as bad as I thought.  Everything is still in date (not that I take much notice of best before dates) and I have discovered lots of goodies that I had forgotten about.  Here are the before and after pictures.  I actually have another four shelves of cookbooks elsewhere (can you see a theme around me and my books?) and kitchen equipment is stored in the cupboard under the stairs at the moment.

You may not have a kitchen, but you have one hell of a pantry! I'm very jealous, I would love a proper pantry, new houses just don't have them.

I too would love a pantry but my cupboard 'under the stairs' will have to do.

Definitely much tidier. My kitchen cupboards could do with a sort out too. Love that photo in your last post of your babies with their babies, awwww.

Your pantry looks so tidy. You have far more shelves than I do. My cupboards are very tidy right now but also very empty . . . They won't be as tidy as yours when they are a bit fuller : )

Well done Fran. Your shelves exhibit that you have a tidy mind...

So you have now made a list of what is on which shelf, so that you will not have to go hunting for the right item.

Next question is how long will the shelves remain tidy ? :) :)

Loud laughter and hoots!

It's so easy to get in a pickle in the pantry when you are so busy! The oldest items can easilly end up at the back of the cupboard. I share your love of cookery books and getting rid of books in general! I do find these days that if I want a recipe quickly I always seem to go to the internet rather than get one of my books out! Chickpea - that's the good thing about buying a bare hull, we could do what we liked xxx

DC - a walk in pantry was something I have always wanted, so it was the first thing on the list xxx

Thanks Jo. That's probably it's last tidy for the next year! Xxx

Mel - me, a tidy mind? Now that's an oxymoron! I've already started showing the next lot of shopping in! Xxx

Sarah - I am the same. I read cookbooks like novels and search for recipes on the internet! Xxx

Hi Fran, I'll bet getting that job gone made you feel so good. It is amazing what we find that we forgot about when we dig in and sort through it all. You probably thought up a whole week of menus while completing this task. Do you want to come over and do my pantry now? Yours looks great!
Have a wonderful weekend and get out and enjoy the weather.
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

I don't have as much room as you do, but I still have trouble using things up that I get on sale and stash away. It if is out on the shelves that Wayne made for me I do better, but if it gets in a cupboard or drawer, look out. - Margy

Oh good for you, Fran! I need to do the same! All I've managed so far is to do my book shelves - but that was more fun than anything...your pantry looks very neat now! xxx

Margy - I am exactly the same! I am determined to make an effort to use it before buying more xxxx

Val - I am still working on the books ;) x

Life has been a bit busy here so I'm just catching up. Your pantry looks great - you have inspired me. Into the studio tomorrow for a clear out!
