What a Difference a Day Makes

Yesterday I took Alfie for a walk in glorious sunshine. Today it is chucking it down with rain! I took these photos of the lane near the allotment. For those of you who watched the recent Great Expectations with Ray Winston, this is what Tollesbury countryside and marshes really look like! Quintessentially English, wouldn't you say?

Let's talk Toilets...

We are seriously considering a compost toilet. Does anyone, apart from Billy (!), have any experience of them? If they are good, it would save buying a macerator and a holding tank and all the work of installing them. Pete has been to Bill's and sniffed his loo and declared it a obnoxious smell free zone! I think we need two. To put it politely, as a vegetarian my poo is fine for the compost pile, but Pete's isn't as he is a confirmed carnivore, hence the need for his and hers loos! This is one that we have seen, it's a Separett Villa 9000, looks good but does it work? Over to you .....

No Words .....

There are no words that can describe the sadness that I feel about the events in Woolwich this afternoon. My heart goes out to the young soldier who was killed and to his family and friends. I know from personal experience how deeply this will be felt in Woolwich Barracks tonight and my thoughts are with them all.

Let There Be Light!

It's amazing how the little things that you have done without for so long can delight you. All the ceiling spotlights are now in and Pete rigged up the power so that they can be turned on by the light switch. Click and you have light, click and they go off! No more plugging leads in to extension plugs. Technology is wonderful! Another development is the installation of the cooker hood. It looks great, now all we have to do is install the cooker and that is another story....

White Mint?

What on earth has happened to my mint. This has popped up in the mint bed. It looks like mint, tastes like mint and smells like mint, but it's white! The rest of the bed is green as green can be. Any ideas?

Quick Tour

I thought I would give you a quick tour of the allotment, warts and all! There's veggies and fruit growing, covered beds ready for mulching, areas waiting to be cultivated, greenhouse, coldframe and seed frame full of seeds all popping their heads up and the herb garden now in its third year and coming in to its full glory. Oh and a bed of comfrey feeding the bees.
