Bigger Holes!

You may remember that Pete cut a hole in the deck to give extra head room in the bedroom.  Well, we are actually raising the head room right through the barge.  All the wood has now arrived for the superstructure for first half of the boat, up to the water tanks, so Pete has been making the hole even bigger.  This evening (after the football, got to get priorities right!) he is going to start putting the wooden frame together.  Will post more pictures soon.

  1. Interesting that it'll be a wooden frame - I automatically think steel when I hear "superstructure". What's the headroom in there right now (well, before the hole!!).

  2. Janys - England have just won, so we have to put up with all this patriotic nonsense for another game at least!
Melissa - the headroom now is just over 6ft, but will be about 7ft throughout. The reasons for wood rather than steel are: Pete can do the work with wood himself, plus material wise it is seriously cheaper than steel.

  3. Hi Janys, no it doesn't make any difference to the insurance because basically it is only the uper framework, roof and wheelhouse that will be in wood and a lot of wheelhouses are anyway. xx

  4. Hi Fran, I'm looking forward to seeing your new framework. How high will the superstructure be? I suppose you're taking french canals into account with all this as well, so am quite curious to see how it turns out. Good luck with the football...hmmm....did I say that? lol xx

  5. Janys, I will very very quietly say 'that's really great news' so that I don't put the mockers on it :)
VallyP, At the moment we are not worrying too much about the French canals and the bridge heights. On deck there will only be about an extra 18 inches of height over the hold but the wheelhouse will be about 7ft.
