Born to be a seadog

When we first decided to get a dog, we wanted a labrador.  However, the practicalities of lifting a full grown lab from dory to yacht put us off, so we decided to go for a Working Cocker Spaniel.  Some friends had a small bitch who had a lovely nature, so we went to the same breeder.  From the moment we saw Alfie we fell in love and I like to think he fell in love with us.  He has been a wonderful addition to the family.

He soon learned to love sailing, here he is taking his turn at watch.
And then when he became more confident, he took over as figurehead!
Once he has completed his RYA Yachtmaster course, he can take his turn as skipper!

  1. I don't think Alfie would know the meaning of the word guard, he is more likely to lick burglars to death! His fur, although longish, is not too bad when it comes to moulting and it doesn't really need much brushing. Never had to have him trimmed either. He jumps in the water at every opportunity, which keeps him clean!

  2. A dog can get a passport and providing you go in through a main port, eg Dover, Harwich, there is no problem. The only thing is they have to have a mite jab 24 hours before entry. Go for it, dogs are so much fun and besides your daughter sounds like she would be a good dog sitter!

  4. Thank you bowiechick for the link, certainly is a lovely houseboat. Trouble is, I don't have designer money and if I throw together shabby chic it just looks shabby not chic!!!!!!

  5. He looks like a wonderful dog. I love his 'king of the world' stance on the boat.

  8. What a sweetie! I wish my dog liked sailing. She hates it with a passion, which is strange considering she's grown up living on the water!
